I’ve been pushing the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to eating heavy foods. The duck and foie gras dog, the Dutch Taco, and now, the OMG! burger.
This is the pinnacle: A burger with ham, Spam, bacon, American cheese, and a fried egg. Courtesy of BrunchBox, one of the hipper food carts in downtown Portland. The carts are everywhere, but no one I could find went as far down the animal-meat-and-fat road as BrunchBox. I thought a side of tater tots with cheese sauce would go well with my OMG! Isaac contributed a Mexican Coke (made with sugar, not corn syrup).
I was physically uncomfortable for a good 90 minutes after eating this. The first half of the eating experience, when I was still amazed and perhaps even high on the adrenaline of knowing I was going to eat four kinds of meat topped with an egg and processed cheese (two kinds if you factor in the tots!), was a rush of enthusiasm and giddy irony. The last third felt like a mix of guilt and the anxiety that my body may stage a revolt. Luckily, it didn’t, but I really had trouble getting up off the couch in Isaac’s office for a good hour after eating that cow-pig-pig-pig-pig-cow sandwich.
